They’re Here!

June 30, 2009

Monday was the travel day for the kids.  Some traveled from as far away as Australia, Canada, Alaska, and Bryan, Texas ;-)!  Most were tired, but all were anxious to get in their hotel rooms and begin making friends with their teammates.  We can already tell that this is going to be a great team. By the end of the day they were laughing and having a good time.

Our team will perform a drama on most ministry days.  It is called “Spell Bound”.  It is an allegory of the story of God’s plan of redemption for man.  The kids act it out while a recorded voice narrates the story in Spanish.  There are sound effects and music that help emphasize the story.  We had drama try-outs Monday night (6-29) to choose the parts.  It is difficult to cast the parts because we just met the kids, and it has to be done in about an hour.  I usually pray hard that God will help us cast the parts and it always works out.

We met up with more friends on Sunday and Monday.  Stephanie (my daughter) and Andrew (a young man from our home church) came to Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday.  They had been in Orlando doing compassionate ministry (painting a church) last week.  They were pretty exhausted when they arrived but already I’m seeing the “life” back in their eyes.  Stephanie met a girl from Oregon, Heather, on her first mission trip.  That was five years ago.  They have been really close ever since.  Heather is on my team (yea!) and she got here on Monday in time for us to eat lunch with her.

Every night we have a worship service.  It is called FUAGNEM.  It stands for Fired Up And Going Nuts Every Minute.  We had our 1st service Monday night.  We are early into the mission trip and the kids are already really getting into the worship!

Monday was a good day.  Being around all these teenagers reminds me why I love coming on these trips!  This generation has a heart for God!
