Team 6 performing Drama at the school at El Cuntic

Team 6 performing Drama at the school at El Cuntic

We went to El Cuntic school and performed our drama for the elementary aged children in the morning and the teens in middle school in the afternoon.  Our team had a chance to interact with both groups during the day.  Interacting with elementary aged kids is pretty easy.

You get out some balloons, face paint, stickers, jump ropes, and a ball and you could be busy for hours.  We had such a great time with them.  We also served them lunch.

Interacting with kids in the middle school can sometimes be a challenge at first.  There is always the bravado that you have to get past before they can be themselves.  To make this easier, we broke into four groups.  Each group had a translator too.  The groups then got a chance to ask each other questions and then gradually move into a game.  By the end of the afternoon all of the kids, both North American and Guatemalan had a great time.

Pam Stenzel  spoke at FUAGNEM on Tuesday night. She addressed the issue of sexual purity.  She clearly articulated the reasons why sex should be reserved for marriage.  The message was direct and to the point, but at the same time she used humor to help the teens deal with the subject.  It was one of the best presentations on this subject I have ever heard. I highly recommend her.  Every teen needs to hear her message, particularly in our over sexualized culture. Check out her website or search for her on YouTube.

Team 6 at Hogar Miguel Magone

On Wednesday we went to the orphanage, Hogar Miguel Magone.  It was extremely clean and well kept.  I found out later that my daughter’s team, Team 7, had gone to this orphanage on their first ministry day to clean it!  She gets those skills from her Dad!

While we were at Hogar Miguel Magone, we performed the drama twice for a total audience of around 600 kids.  The principal then gave us a tour or their property.  She was grateful for our visit to their school.

We had a shortened ministry today because some of our team has sponsored a child in Guatemala from Compassion International.  They got to meet them face-to-face today and play together for about 2 hours. How many people get to actually meet the children they sponsor?  What a beautiful, inspiring thing to see.

Wednesday night’s FUAGNEM was a concert by Ayiesha Woods  and her brother, Donald.  They were awesome!  Toby Mac discovered her and signed her to his label (Gotee Records) and I can see why.  Check her out on her MySpace page

Tonight was also the annual “Wacky Hair” night.  The kids all mess up their hair to see who has the “wackiest” hair.

I have always somehow avoided participating in this event but not this year.  Christina and Cecilia’s Hair Salon fixed my hair tonight.  I may just start a new fad!  If you want me to hook you up with them I’ll give you their contact information.

Random Happenings and Thoughts:

The grazing space isn't quite as big as it is in Texas!

The grazing space isn't quite as big as it is in Texas!

It is not uncommon to see cattle tied to a tree grazing right beside the highway!

As we travel we see farmland on the side of the mountains.  All of the farming is done by hand. It is pretty wild to see men standing on the side of a mountain while working the land.

Dick hasn’t taught PE in over a month so he had to take time-out today to teach Morgan how to do a pull-up.

We saw smoke coming out of a volcano right after dinner on Wednesday night.  Oh my!
